Can Corona Covid-19 Virus spread through shoes?

Since the corona COVID-19 hit the world, everyone has been looking for various ways to protect themselves, from washing their hands with a hand sanitizer, using a mask, to staying at home. All that was done to keep the corona virus from spreading.

There has been a lot of speculation to determine how long the corona virus can last in various objects. According to a study from the National Institutes of Health, United States, COVID-19 can thrive on cardboard for 24 hours, while in steel and plastic, the virus can live up to three days, as quoted by the Times of India, Friday, April 3, 2020 .

Some studies claim that the corona virus can also live in shoes for a maximum of five days. Because most shoes are made of leather, rubber and plastic, shoes can be carriers of other viruses.

Infectious disease specialist Mary E. Schmidt said that the survival time of the virus could actually be five days or more according to several studies conducted on materials closely related to shoe material at room temperature.

According to Georgine Nanos, a family practitioner in the United States, shoes can be a potential source of contamination, especially if they are worn in densely populated areas such as markets, hospitals, workplaces, and so on.

You can also become a virus carrier if your shoes touch an infected place or someone who has been infected with a sneeze or cough near you. They may stick to your shoes and can also infect you.

Another reason why shoes can become breeding grounds for bacteria and viruses is because shoes come in contact with more dirt and germs. Viruses and bacteria can multiply in the soles of shoes and may even be brought to your home.
